Jewellery Quarter / Tall Building / Birmingham Architects / Residential Architects
Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter is hailed by English Heritage as “a national treasure” and “a place of unique character.” This area is historically associated with jewellery production and metalworking, and still produces 40% of jewellery made in the UK. It has seen a great deal of development in recent years and has also become one of the city’s most sought-after residential locations. This Jewellery Quarter tall building creates 226 one, two and three bedroom apartments over 25 storeys.
Situated on a key approach route to Birmingham City Centre, JQ Rise offers an attractive location for a tall building. Its proximity to the Jewellery Quarter Conservation Area required careful consideration of heritage concerns during the design process. The exact position of the tall element was developed to present a slender profile on the city centre approach whilst opening up key views from the Jewellery Quarter. Material choice and detail design were also carefully considered. We chose a characteristic red brick as the primary material in relation to the historic fabric of the district.
